“Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise.” –Victor Hugo
My journey toward becoming a therapist began with a constant stream of family and friends who would seek me out when they were going through a difficult time. I would often receive comments that they felt like I really listened to them, that I truly understood where they were coming from and that they appreciated that I was not quick to jump in to tell them what to do. Believe it or not, I began college as a Sports Management major. However, during my sophomore year, I took a psychology class and I immediately knew that this field was my calling! I was so fascinated by how the human person developed, interacted with others, struggled and overcame challenges. And now, after years of school and experience in the world of counseling, I am passionate about instilling hope in my clients, walking alongside them while they come to life-changing realizations and inspiring clients to work hard to make positive, lasting changes in their lives.
As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor & a Certified School Counselor, I have experience working with children, adolescents & adults in the areas of life transitions, anxiety, depression, grief, ADHD support, educational/career support, and many others.
Therapy With Me:
Although many clients feel nervous stepping into their first therapy session, with me, that feeling will not last long – I will put you at ease, make you feel accepted, and help you believe that healing and growth are possible. Whatever you are struggling with, it can get better. My first step in our counseling relationship will be allowing you the space to educate me on who you are before we dive into the tough stuff. Throughout our time together, I will also challenge you to work hard inside and outside of our sessions so that your progress can be fully achieved. Know that I will always do so in a supportive, encouraging way so that you feel empowered and confident in your ability to do so.
Every client’s session is different; however, in a typical session, you will have the ability to share with me the most pressing issues in your life. Using cognitive behavioral therapy techniques, I will assist you in seeing the connections between your thoughts, feelings and behaviors, and any inconsistencies or adverse patterns that are adding to your struggles. I also frequently use play therapy & solution-focused therapy techniques in session. We will discuss and/or practice coping skills. I will also give you a little bit of homework – some type of activity for you to work on between sessions, that will reinforce what we discussed.
My goal in working with you is to help you feel safe enough to share your deepest thoughts and feelings. This will enable you the space to work through your struggles, begin to feel better and improve your quality of life as quickly as possible. I believe that there is hope in every situation – I will carry that hope for you until you are able to embrace it for yourself. Counseling is a partnership, one in which you and I work together with the goal of you becoming the person you were made to be. Let’s begin.
